Without a doubt Windows Vista is, certainly when compared to XP, a pretty operating system. Windows themes, which are easy to change, modify and update in vista, allow you to personlized your system to make it ‘just so’, they’re so easy to change that it can become addictive and before long you’ll forget all about the standard look your shiny new Windows Vista machine had when it first arrived.

If you’re familiar with Windows XP before you moved to Vista, you will find changing Vista themes a real doddle. Even if you’re not familiar with Windows, we will hopefully show you here just how simple it can be to update your Vista theme. Unfortunately, by default the pre-installed Windows Vista themes are a little (well, very) thin on the ground, but the good news is there’s a lot of creative people out there making fantastic backgrounds, desktops and complete vista themes, and they’re giving them away for free!

Lets get you started with a really simple task, to change your Windows Vista Theme in a few simple steps:

Right click your mouse with your cursor on your desktop (so NOT on any open application window or icon).

Use your mouse to scroll down, select Personalize and (left) click it.

A dialogue box should appear with the header Personalize appearance and sounds. Below this are several options. Select Theme.

Yet another dialogue box will pop up with the title Theme settings

Beneath Theme you should see a small box with a drop down menu below it. Clicking on the you will be given a selection of four Vista themes to chose from: Current theme, Windows Vista, Windows Classic, Browse. Clicking on one of the pre-installed options (ie not Browse) will present you with a preview of the vista theme.

Select any theme you wish to set by clicking OK or Apply.

That’s it, enjoy your new look!

So that’s the very basics to updating your theme to one of the ready installed options. If you have downloaded themes already, then follow the above steps, but choose the Browse option in step five, and chose your downloaded theme, then click Apply.

We hope this basic introduction has been helpful, once you’re into customizing your desktop it can be quite addictive, and we’re sure you’ll soon be hungry for more, and we’ll do our best to provide it here at Vista Themes Finder.
